On Saturday, March 21, 2026, RecycleMore teamed up with Reuse Alliance and the Hercules Public Library to host a Free Repair Fair. This event brought community members together with coaches for an afternoon of sustainable reuse and repair in West Contra Costa County. In addition, there was a clothing swap and a fun creative reuse table!
The event was open to all residents in the RecycleMore service area and was held at the Hercules Public Library at 109 Civic Drive, Hercules, CA 94547. Here are the results of this amazing event:

- 75 attendees participated
- 55 items fixed
- 486 pounds of waste diverted from the landfill
- 78 pounds of clothing items in the clothing swap
- 3,001 kilograms of CO2 emissions were avoided
Items that were brought in varied from lamps, clothing items for zipper repair or hemming, toys, jewelry, laptops, fans, clocks, electronic scales, a water fountain, can openers, food processors, furniture, and more!
The youth volunteers were inspired to start a clothing swap of their own; the volunteer coaches wanted to keep the party going; and the attendees were so happy their beloved items were able to be fixed.
RecycleMore Staff Reka Abraham and Lisa Borreani attended and shared program information as well as distributed kitchen food scrap pails. The team from Reuse Alliance included Phoebe Schenker, Joanne Wang, Steve Newell, Cambria Taylor, Veronika Waylonis, and Elaina Perelson. And the Hercules Library Staff included Alison Peters and Eric Lee. In addition, Jessica Ruiz from Zero Waste Marin was in attendance.
RecycleMore would like to thank all the volunteers, Reuse Alliance, and the Hercules Library that participated in this event, as well as the residents that attended. These types of events support a circular economy and encourage reuse and repair to extend the life an item instead of buying new. Together, we are empowering the West Contra Costa County community to restore their fixable items, one repair at a time, and, in turn, keep these items out of the landfill.
Reuse reminders to ask yourself (source: Reuse Alliance):
- Can I borrow or rent it?
- Can I get it used?
- Can I get it fixed?
- Can I turn it into something else?
- Can I avoid single use?
