FREE Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Mattress Collection Event (Richmond, CA) – ONE DAY ONLY!

Open to residents* of El Cerrito, Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, Hercules, and Unincorporated West Contra Costa County (El Sobrante, Bayview, East Richmond Heights, Montalvin Manor, North Richmond, Rollingwood & Tara Hills).
*Bring proof of residency (such as a driver’s license)
 
Accepted Items:
  • Electronic waste with circuit boards (including microwaves, computers, TVs, and cell phones)
  • Auto products (antifreeze, gasoline, batteries, used motor oil, and filters)
  • Propane gas cylinders (1 lb. or 20 lb.), hazardous aerosols/cleaners/sprays, and poisons
  • Paints, solvents, thinners, and adhesives
  • Household batteries, fluorescent lights, mercury thermometers, and switches
  • Garden products (pesticides and fertilizers)
  • Pool and photo chemicals
  • Mattresses and box springs (maximum of 3 items; no excessively wet or damaged mattress; no furniture)
NOTE: State regulations limit the transportation of HHW to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle per visit. Individual containers are limited to a 5 gallon capacity.
 

Prohibited Items:

  • No garbage, no trash, no trailers, no scrap metal, no tires
  • No furniture or air mattresses
  • No business waste, no construction/demolition waste
  • No explosives, ammunition, medical waste, pharmaceuticals, sharps, radioactive waste, gas tanks, or compressed gas cylinders
  • No appliances (such as stoves, refrigerators, washers/dryers, vacuums, toasters, coffee makers, etc.)
  • No TVs in consoles or TVs over 36″ (flat-screens are accepted)
  • No hazardous construction debris (asbestos, pressure treated wood waste, contaminated soil, etc.)
  • No electric vehicle batteries
Participant Guidelines
All participants must remain in the vehicle at all times. All materials must be placed in the trunk or in the rear most portion of the vehicle. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in refusal of service.
 
Can’t make the event? Our permanent HHW Facility accepts HHW and mattresses all year round! Take your HHW to:
